What is National Identity Card ?
National Identity card is nothing but a unique 12 digit number. which will be provided soon to each and every citizen of India. Name of the card proposed by government is AADHAR card. The number will be generated randomly and it will contain general information of indivisual like photo, fingerprint etc.
Which is the Concerning Authority Regarding The card ?
Name of the concerning authority is Unique Identification Authority Of India(UIDAI). This is an agency of Indian Government which will be responsible for AADHAR card scheme. The authority will provide a unique number to all Indians. UIDAI is a part of planning commission of India. Nandan Nilekani is the chairman of UIDAI.UIDAI has been constituted on 28 jan. 2009. The headquarte of UIDAI is in New Delhi.
Mission Of UIDAI
The role that the Authority envisions is to issue a unique identification number (UIDAI) that can be verified and authenticated in an online, cost-effective manner, which is robust enough to eliminate duplicate and fake identities.
What is the meaning of AADHAR
AADHAR meaning in the project is "Support" or "Founation". And Its logo is a yellow sun with a fingerprint embedded in its centre. The logo was designed by Atul Sudhakar Rao Pande.
Benefits Of AADHAR
1. The first and foremost benefit is that when you are having AADHAR card that is a unique number you don't need to carry any other documents regarding your identity just like passport, driving licenseetc.
2. The Indian army will get the benefit of this card in the area of J&K. where nobody knows who is terrorist and who is the local resident. Because as per the information of RAW(Research and Analytic Wing) there are ISI Members who are living in J&K. So now because of the AADHAR card now they will come to know easily who is indian citizen or who is local resident.
Negative Points or Demerits Of AADHAR
1.AADHAR will be a multi pupose card so all the information of an individual is in this card. So every time you have to carry this card. If any Policeman asks who are you ? are you citizen of India ? to prove that you are the citizen of India you have to show the Card that you are the Citizen of India. Its like imposing a restriction on our right of Freedom Of Movement enshrined in Art 19(1)(d). Or is it against our right of privacy under article 21 of Indian Constitution.
2.Is there any guarantee that there is one to one contact between real people and electronic identities ?
Conclusion
The project as proposed by Indian governments has some lacuna but I personaly thinks that it is a beneficiary programme for Indian citizens and for India too. It is not Perfect but it will be when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. So I hope soon The government will solve all the problems regarding this and Provide a safe environment for the people of this country by giving the Identity card.
